Insurance Geek

We exist to make insurance easier to understand — and easier to buy.

We're a real independent insurance agency based in Columbus, Ohio. Here's who we are, how we got here, and why we think most insurance sites are doing it wrong.

Why we exist

Most insurance sites want your phone number. We want to earn your trust.

Search for almost any insurance question online and you'll find the same thing: a form asking for your name, address, and phone number before you've learned a single useful thing. Then the calls start.

That's not how we think shopping for insurance should work.

Insurance Geek exists because we believe consumers deserve real information before they're asked to buy anything. Coverage that's actually explained. Tradeoffs that are actually acknowledged. An advisor who consults before they quote.

If you leave this site more confused than when you arrived, we've failed. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.

We place life, health, and retirement coverage across 30+ A-rated carriers — and auto, home, and renters through the top appointed carriers in your state. We're licensed, independent, and based in Columbus, Ohio. And we've spent years building a better way to do this — for consumers first.

Brad's story

I learned insurance the hard way. That turned out to be the right way.

After graduating from Ohio State, I started selling life insurance door-to-door. Driving across Ohio. Paper applications. Cold calls. Learning from scratch what it actually takes to help a family figure out how much coverage they need and why.

I eventually became a Farmers Insurance agency owner and built a million-dollar book of business. Then I watched rate increases erase years of relationship building — and realized the limits of being tied to one company's products.

So I went independent. And that changed everything.

As an independent agent, I wasn't selling one carrier's products anymore. I was shopping the market on behalf of my clients. Better rates. More options. No pressure to place business with a carrier just because they were my employer.

At the same time, I became obsessed with helping people find answers online before they ever talked to an agent. I taught myself SEO and built insurance websites that helped tens of thousands of people understand their options. That became Insurance Geek.

Twenty years in this industry taught me one thing above everything else: people don't need to be sold insurance. They need to understand it. Once they do, the right decision usually becomes obvious.

The problem with most insurance sites

Most sites treat you like a lead. We treat you like a client.

There's a reason shopping for insurance online feels frustrating. Most sites are built to capture your contact information and sell it — to multiple agents, sometimes dozens. You fill out one form and your phone rings all afternoon.

Here's the difference between how those sites work and how we work:

Most insurance sites

Ask for your information before giving you any. Sell your contact details to multiple agents. Prioritize whoever pays the highest referral fee. Have no relationship with you after the sale.

Insurance Geek

Educate first, quote second. Work with you directly — no lead selling. Shop the market to find what's right for you. Stay your point of contact through renewals, claims, and changes.

We generate our own leads through content and education. When you reach us, you're reaching us — not a marketplace that will auction your information to the highest bidder.

Why independent matters

Independent means we work for you — not for a carrier.

There are two kinds of insurance agents. Captive agents represent one company. They can only offer you that company's products, at that company's prices, under that company's underwriting rules.

Independent agents represent many companies. We shop your risk across carriers and find the coverage that actually fits — at the best available rate.

It matters more than most people realize.

If one carrier raises rates, we can move you. A captive agent can't.
If one carrier won't write your risk, we have many others. A captive agent has one shot.
Our recommendation isn't shaped by a quota. We don't have one carrier we're required to place business with.
We can bundle across carriers when that actually produces a better outcome — not just when it benefits our production numbers.

Independence is the single most important structural fact about this agency. It's why we can give advice instead of just a pitch.

What we believe

A short list of things we believe that most insurance sites don't.

01You should understand your coverage before you buy it. Not after you file a claim.
02Cheaper isn't always better. The cheapest policy is worthless if it doesn't cover what you actually need it to cover.
03You shouldn't have to repeat yourself. If we already know your information, we shouldn't ask again.
04Your agent should be reachable when something goes wrong — not just when you're about to sign.
05A good advisor tells you when you're over-insured, not just when you're under-insured.

Our promise to you

Here's exactly what you can expect when you work with us.

We don't want to win your business through pressure. We want to earn it through honesty. Here's what that looks like in practice:

We educate before we sell. Every page on this site is written to answer a real question — not to push you toward a quote form.
We shop the market for you. We compare rates and coverage across 30+ A-rated carriers for life and health — and the top appointed carriers in your state for auto, home, and renters — to find what actually fits your situation.
We tell you the tradeoffs. Every coverage decision has a tradeoff. We explain them. You decide.
We stay with you. Renewals, rate changes, claims, life events — we're your point of contact, not just your first quote.
We never sell your information. Your contact information stays with us. That's not a policy — it's just how we operate.

Insurance should protect you.
Understanding it shouldn't feel like a second job.
